Anaglyphs . Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave and Colorado Deserts . California . 2009

There has been a resurgence of interest 3D stereography, particularly for military and commercial gaming applications. In the humanities, stereoscopy is a powerful metaphor for collaborative practice, cross-disciplinary thinking, and multimedia art making.
In this collection, I focused on representations of depth of field as represented in anaglyphs and diptychs of Yosemite and Joshua Tree. As I walked the Mojave terrain, home to indigenous people yet captured as “untouched” by pioneer photographers such as Carlton Watkins, I join in conversations on technology’s representation and impact on the landscape.
