the virtual old and new

The metaphor of a radio station is my way of thinking about engaging diverse community and elevating unique voices, to make an intervention against social isolation. This particular project, ROUTES RADIO, grew out of my fellowship and residency at Cornell University’s Society for the Humanities. The theme that year was The Virtual: Old & New. My interest was in using virtual technologies to enlarge the public sphere. Toward that goal, ROUTES RADIO invited university students, faculty, and Ithaca residents to produce audio-based programming in physical space using analog and digital methods and share across a community in cyber space.
